Study Methods Games & Activities Create a "MyQuiz" A MyQuiz is an especially effective study methods for students who can barely stand to read the chapter and don't want to or won't read it again to review for the test. It's also a great way to maintain focus while reading. This method creates a quiz as the student progresses through the materials. Materials Textbook or other reading material Lined paper, folded in half and numbered down the left side OR a three-column spreadsheet on a computer (one skinny column on the left for numbers, two big columns for information). Label the left column "Questions" and the right column "Answers." Steps i. Read a paragraph of the information. ii. At the end of that paragraph, in the left column, write/type a few questions you could imagine would be on a test. See our sample. Note that this is not a writing test; abbreviate where possible and don’t worry about complete sentences. iii. Ideally, build this document over a few days as you read the section/chapter. iv. Now, give yourself a quiz. Fold the paper so that you can't see the answers and write your answers on another sheet of paper. Unfold your MyQuiz to see how you did. (You may be very glad that this is just a practice test and that score won't be averaged into your grade!) For auditory learners, have someone read the questions to you. Answer verbally, but also answer the test in writing at some point. This is a different brain process, and you should practice both ways.
