Study Methods Games & Activities Matching Cards Movement maintains attention, especially for athletes and unfocused students. Matching cards are my (Michelle Deets, Owner and Tutor) favorite way to study and memorize questions that have specific answers. You can use this method for:i. Facts (historical dates, characters and their roles, states and capitals, math facts) ii. Definitions (Language arts, science) iii. Formulas (math) iv. Languages (Spanish/English, etc) Materials: Index cards, Pen/pencil, study guide or text book, scissors, baggies Steps i. Fold cards in half to create a crease line. (Don't cut them apart yet!) ii. Label the backs with matching numbers (1-1, 2-2, 3-3). iii. Write the term/vocab word/etc on the left side and the definition on the right. iv. Cut them apart. v. Put one group (terms) on the table. vi. Match the definitions to the terms vii. Flip the cards over…if the numbers match then you are correct! viii. Re-study those that you couldn’t match. Create a “trick” to remember them. ix. Store the cards in baggies labeled by chapter. This will get you ready for finals! Variations i. Place the cards around the room to create more movement and interest. ii. Play tic-tac-toe by placing the terms on the board and matching the definitions. Keep track with markers (such as nickels vs. pennies). iii. Review verbally and check the matching numbers.
