Have the student be the teacher and read the words to
you. Kids like to be in charge and this allows him to review the words.
Deliberately write half of the words incorrectly.
Here’s the catch. The student, without the aide of the master spelling
list, must correct your work. Score one point to him for every correct
word that he leaves unchanged and two points to him for every incorrect
word that he properly edits. You get one point for every incorrect word he
misses and one for every incorrect spelling he offers.
If your student is just learning the words, let him use the master word
list to correct your words. This serves as a good review. For math facts,
let your student write a test for you to take. Again, deliberately answer
half of the problems incorrectly and let your student do the
correcting.
Just a warning: be prepared for a revenge of the red pen. Kids love to
show you just how wrong you were!
